Howe Corporation is Now WOSB Certified!
Did you know that 42 percent of all businesses in the United States are owned by women? Yet, even in 2021 there is a significant difference in the revenue and capital between those businesses and others. The WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) helps to bridge that gap by offering opportunities and certification for women-owned businesses across the country.
Every year, the federal government awards at least five percent of all federal contracting dollars to women-owned small businesses in the United States. In 2015, Congress changed the contracting program to help make it easier for small businesses to qualify. Howe Corporation is now proud to hold certification as a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB).
In order to qualify for WOSB certification, a business must:
- Be a small business
- Women must control and own at least 51 percent of the business
- Women must manage the daily operations
- Long-term decisions at the company must be made by women
Once certified, a business can claim that they meet the diversity and specifications required to obtain federal contracting dollars. In addition, this certification helps connect women-owned businesses with other companies seeking to diversify their services and contracts.
